The Ninety and Nine and the Lost Sheep

Well, this week’s been a really good one! Last week Elder Scott and I had a baptismal date set up for Pierre! Sadly, he had to move for work the night before his baptism so we were unable to see it through. We were a little devastated but we are optimistic in helping him once he gets back after 3 months!

We had some really solid lessons this past week. With the Moran Zerna family, we had a family home evening and we did an activity on Baptism and the Holy Ghost to teach those principles to the family! They loved them and it made much more sense to them!

On Monday, I went on divisions with the Elders from another sector, and we were able to have a really good day! We taught a really receptive gentleman from Haiti who knew a lot about The Bible and we had a really good lesson with him and even set a baptismal date for him!

Yesterday, we had a really interesting day. We went to an investigator’s house for a planned lesson and met her cousin who she invited over for the lesson. We met the guy and learned a little about his story. He told us how he lost everything after becoming addicted to drugs. He got a little emotional about what he had done and was ashamed to tell us and to be there with his cousin who was harsh with him for what he had done to his family. He was living on the street for a week and is now without options or places to go. He is at a dead end pretty much. We began talking with him and we read in Luke chapter 15 which talks about repentance and the story of the 99 sheep and the 1 lost sheep and about how the Shepard left to go and look for the 1 lost sheep while leaving the 90 and 9 behind. We related that to this man trying to extend the help of the Savior and how he can forgive so long as we give fruits worthy of repentance. We explained that true repentance is a change of heart. Leaving the bad behind in pursuit of the good. For this man and for many, the road to change can be somewhat intimidating with the fear of shame, discipline to break habits, and intensive persistence to do good. all of which is difficult. The right road is always a little harder and a little less taken. but as we do it, the loving help of the savior can reach to everyone; giving each of us the opportunity to change and start over. And when we do have a sincere change of heart, and live righteously we are free from the guilt and are happy and we walk uprightly with God! As the scripture in D&C  42 says, Behold, he who has arepented of his bsins, the same is cforgiven, and I, the Lordremember them no more´.
